Nail care: Precautions
Keep your nails dry and neat.
It prevents the growth of bacteria inside the nails. Prolonged contact with hands can lead to cracked nails.
Wear protective gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using irritating liquids.
Practice good nail hygiene. Trim your nails regularly, trim them neatly and cut them in a round, soft arc. Avoid nails that are too long or too short. Too long is easy to grow bacteria in the nails, too short may cause inflammation of the skin near the nails.
Use moisturizer. When using a hand cream, apply it to your nails and cuticles.
Apply a protective layer. Use nail hardeners to make your nails stronger.
Ask your doctor about biotin. Some studies suggest that the nutritional supplement biotin may help strengthen weak or fragile nails.
Nail care: Do not
To prevent nail damage, do not do the following:
- Biting or exfoliating your nails. These habits can damage nail beds. Even a small cut next to the nail can cause bacteria or fungi to enter and cause an infection. And there are a lot of bacteria on your hands, and biting your nails will spread bacteria from your hands to your mouth.
- Tear the barbs. If you’re not careful, you could rip off the living tissue and the barbs. The correct way to do this is to gently cut off the barbs with scissors.
- Use harsh nail care products. Use nail polish remover sparingly. When using nail polish remover, choose a formula that does not contain acetone.
- Ignore the problem. If your nail problem doesn’t seem to resolve on its own or is related to other signs and symptoms, consult a doctor or dermatologist for evaluation
Tips on manicures and pedicures
If you want a manicure or pedicure to get a seemingly healthy fingernail, there are a few things to keep in mind. Be sure to visit a nail salon with a valid state license and choose an experienced and professional nail technician. Make sure your manicurist has thoroughly disinfected all tools used in the process to prevent infection.
Although nails are small, their health can not be underestimated, and they need a certain amount of care.
